What is powerlifting? Powerlifting is an individual strength sport testing maximal strength. Athletes lift as much weight as possible for one rep. Each lifter has three attempts for squat, bench and deadlift with the best lift summed to create a total amount lifted. The lifter with the highest total in their age and/or weight class wins.
Who is powerlifting for? Many people believe that powerlifting is only for those who wish to compete. The three movements; squat, bench and deadlift, are a big part of functional fitness exercises. These lifts help strengthen the muscles needed for everyday activities. No matter what your training for, adding powerlifting to your training program will help you build strength so you can reach your goals.
